In this case study, we highlight a recent transformation delivered by Earthwater Gardens & DW Resin at Park Royal Mental Health Centre. The project involved a full rip out and replacement of the existing surface, with the goal of creating a safer, more durable and visually appealing outdoor pathway. By installing a high-quality resin bound system using the PERMABOUND blend espresso, the team provided a low maintenance solution that improves both functionality and the overall environment for staff and patients.
With an old slab loosening, creating danger for staff, patients and visitors, the teams had to find a solution. They needed to find a suitable surface that was durable, low-maintenance, SuDS compliant and matched the aesthetic of the surrounding area.
They proposed a resin bound system as the most suitable option, offering a durable, permeable, and low-maintenance finish ideal for high-traffic areas within an NHS facility. Careful consideration was given to both performance and aesthetics, making sure the chosen Espresso finish would complement the surroundings while providing a clean, modern look.
The installation began with the full removal of the existing, worn surface at Park Royal Mental Health Hospital, ensuring a clean and stable base for the new system. Once cleared, the area was prepared and levelled to create a solid foundation suitable for a high-performance resin bound surface.
The resin bound material was then carefully mixed on site to achieve a consistent blend before being transferred to the installation area. The team applied the material evenly, ensuring the correct depth was maintained throughout, followed by a precise hand-trowelling process to create a smooth finish.
This methodical approach was repeated across the entire pathway, resulting in a durable, permeable surface in a rich Espresso finish, which was perfectly suited to the demands of a busy NHS environment.
Earthwater & DW together delivered a beautiful transformation at the Park Royal Hospital, replacing the old and worn-out slabs with a resin bound gravel surface. The finished result not only looked aesthetically pleasing but it also created a safer and more durable pathway for patients, staff and visitors for many years to come.
